CHILDREN'S HOUSE
"Comprehend a Little Mystery Every Day" - Albert Einstein
Preschool through Kindergarten
The child is at the height of motor-sensory exploration at three and four. It is through the senses that the child will come to appreciate the world. A Montessori environment allows the student's awareness and sensitivity to be used. With the hands-on materials, the student is developing and refining the power to observe, and then compare and differentiate sensory input. The "wonder," which is caught rather than taught, is as important as the information and structure.
This respectful and sensorial orientation constitutes the crux of the Montessori method. The "teachers" don't teach in the formal sense - they guide. Guides and assistants in Children's House direct young children's curiosity, guiding them to learn - at their own pace - the fundamentals of reading, writing, arithmetic with an introduction to cultural awareness.
At the Earth School there are 5 Children's House multi-age environments, with 25 students per class. Each class has one AMI certified teacher and a full-time assistant. A half-day program is available from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for 2 1/2 to 4 year old children. 5-6 year olds are invited to stay a full day from 8:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Child Care is available before and after school. There are several Special Programs provided for Children's House students.
